MAY LIN

Interviews

One of my primary sources of gathering news was interviewing stakeholders and those involved in the event or topic I was reporting on. Often, I would interview people on the scene, including those who attended Celebrate the Music for a package, and other times, I would reach out about initiatives or contributions they had made to the topic of my article, which was how I connected with the San Mateo County Suicide Prevention Committee.

Research

Many of my news articles and feature stories include information from published journals and government websites, which helps set up the context of my articles. One of the sources I use most often to gather data is Pew Research Center, but I also include journal articles and other credible publications for reference in my articles.

To find out about upcoming events to report on, I look over the city calendars, which is how I learned about San Mateo's new suicide prevention measures. I also search through platforms such as Nextdoor and Google for more news, and whenever I come across a topic I'm interested in reporting on, I confirm all of the information while also adding on in my reporting.
